While many locals consider Lindy’s on 4th the burger in Tucson, you might just walk right past it, not even knowing it’s there.
The tiny little burger shop is nestled in the heart of Tucson’s famous 4th Avenue Shopping District. But if you don’t know to go there, you’d never know that the Nirvana of cheeseburger was right there.
Sash and I didn’t even know about it until she asked an employee of Razor’s Edge, an eclectic clothes boutique just two doors down, on where to get the best eats.
“Lindy’s” she was told. “It’s right next door”.
It turns out Lindy’s on 4th has been the subject of many restaurant reviews both online, in print, and on television. It was where Adam Richman of “Man Vs. Food” took on the “O.M.F.G.” an insane cheeseburger of nine 1/3 lb. patties (3 lbs. total) of beef with cheddar, swiss, lettuce, tomato, onion & Lindy’ own proprietary sauce. See video clip.
Turns out that Lindy’s is where you’ll find the most creative burger recipes. the “Mac & Cheese Burger” is popular, consisting of creamy Mac & Cheese, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion & Lindy’s sauce. There’s also the “Blue Suede Cow” a tribute to Elvis, topped with peanut butter.
I ended up having a double Donkey Punch, two 1/3 pound patties, with generous helpings of green chiles, jalapenos, and diced habaneros. It’s the hottest burger on the menu, which comes with a warning. And it’s definitely hot, producing beads of sweat running down my neck.
Sash had the “Kush”, a burger topped with Raspberry preserves and bleu cheese crumbles.
What makes Lindy’s so good?
The beef patties are incredibly juicy, with lines of luscious grease running down your arms. But it’s also the way they’re cooked, infused with a rich smokiness, just like an old school diner. The buns are modest, just enough to hold on to, and very soft, so that each bite is about the meat and fixings, and not a mouth full of spongey bread. Then of course there’s the cheese, completely melted with gobs of lines hanging off the burger.
And Lindy’s burgers are messy. You better expect to get your hands greasy. No one leaves Lindy’s without the scent of cheeseburger and sauce all over your fingers.
Lindy’s is a burger haven for the hard core cheeseburger aficionado. In some respects, it’s like going to Grandma’s house, where you better expect a full belly. Except here, it’s all about America’s favorite comfort food, but taken to an entirely new level.
