Road Pickle Report: June 21, 2014

Our first full week in Bakersfield, CA is in the bag. Can’t say that it’s been inspiring, because Bakersfield is just, well, Bakersfield.

But we did get to spend a lot of quality time catching up on work. Too Much Tina is picking up more customer inquiries and Sash is busy trying to convert them into sales.

Otherwise, we’ve spent a lot of time visiting with her daughter who is about to deliver her first baby any day now.

Weather has been hot here, but not extreme by California standards. Probably mid-90s to about 100-102 at the highest.

Sash was able to get us a “2 for 1” discount at a local fitness center here. Since we’re in Bakersfield for only a month, we wanted a one-month membership. They quoted us $60.00 per person based on the fact that it was just a one-month membership. Somehow, she used her powers of persuasion to reduce it down to $60.00 for both of us. The place is called In Shape Clubs.

Our hotel supposedly has a small fitness room, according to its website. We actually put on our gym clothes and asked the front desk clerk to direct us to it. She said, “Oh, it’s closed”. Sash asked when it would be open. The clerk said, “It’s closed indefinitely, it won’t be open for awhile.”

I was pissed about it. We selected this hotel specifically because it’s website said it has a fitness room. So, we looked up the In Shape Clubs, which is just a few blocks away, and got the membership there. Sash went back to our hotel and talked to the manager, demanding that they discount our lodging by $60.00, the price of our gym membership. The manager refused, saying that we were already getting several other discounts (whatever!).

Haven’t done any joy riding here at all. Just been riding our motorcycles running errands, going out, or visiting Sash’s daughter. Most of our time has been spent either in the hotel room or at coffee shops, getting caught up on work.

We’ll be in Bakersfield until July 14, then we’re headed north to Murphys, CA to see more of Sash’s family.

If you’re in the Bakersfield area and would like to meetup for a coffee or beer with Sash and I, let us know.

I'm a "Man in Black", one of those guys who goes around dressed in black suits, looking for people who were abducted by UFOs so that we can keep them quiet. Sash and I travel around in this trailer awaiting orders from headquarters for my next assignment. I can't show you the details of my work, but I can show you how I live.
